The mission of the New Hartford Business Council is to create and promote a professional and productive partnership among area businesses, through community functions and social networking, in ways that will foster a positive business environment; thereby creating opportunities for area commerce. TOWN OF NEW HARTFORD BROCHURE IS AVAILABLE! At long last the town of New Hartford has a town brochure! New Hartford . . . wild and scenic.
The New Hartford, CT town brochure made its public debut at the New Hartford Business Council’s Picnic & Scholarship meeting on June 8th at Brodie Park. The brochure committee, formerly chaired by the late Gardner Graves of Realty Works in Collinsville and New Hartford, produced a long overdue, colorful and informative brochure of New Hartford for its visitors and prospective new residents.
Strictly a volunteer force, the members of the brochure committee include Deb Kuszaj (Blue Sky Foods), Susan Wacht (GeminEye Images), Joan Auclair (graphic designer), Norma Richmond (Honorary NHBC member), and Christine Hayward (N.H. Town Hall). Graves, Hayward and Richmond were instrumental in obtaining the projects’ funding for the printing which was generously provided by grants from the town’s Economic Development Committee and New Hartford Community Connections.
The New Hartford town brochure is the result of 15 months of hard work by the committee beginning with a design concept utilizing an HDR (high dynamic range) image, a newer style of photography, for the brochure’s cover to achieve a retro postcard look and feel. Discover a bit of history in the interior of the brochure in two reproduced antique postcards depicting the town’s center in times past. Also inside: a calendar of monthly events with numerous photos to attract folks during every season. All photographic images were generously donated by photographers who live in the town.
The apt catch phrase used in the interior of the gate-fold brochure, “New Hartford . . . a little wild, mighty scenic”, was coined by Kuszaj who had the brain storm while looking at posters for the Farmington River which runs through the town. Kuszaj, Wacht and Auclair tweaked the content and worked selflessly on the brochure’s design elements. Truly a team effort.
As late winter approached, efforts to see a town brochure arriving at the Welcome Centers in timely fashion for this summer’s tourism market became a priority. Additionally, considering print costs, the project was turned into a two phase design. The original concept calling for a fold out town map with artist drawings depicting key points of interests (including the town center, Nepaug, Bakerville, Pine Meadow, & West Hill Pond) has been temporarily put on hold. The map, along with opportunities for businesses to advertise, is to be included in Phase Two which will begin once 80% of the current brochure stock is positioned.
Brochures are currently being placed in local businesses and will be headed to the four Connecticut Tourism Welcome Centers in the very near future, while tourism centers in New York, Rhode Island and Massachusetts will be contacted as additional distribution sites. For now, copies of the town brochure can be found at the New Hartford Town Hall and many store fronts throughout the town.
