A message from First Selectman Dan Jerram:

BRUSH PICK-UP:  Many residents have called to find out if the Town will be picking up brush RELATED TO STORM DAMAGE WITHIN THE TOWN RIGHT OF WAY (not debris within the entire yard) if placed along the roadside.  The highway department will attempt to pick this up (STORM RELATED WITHIN RIGHT OF WAY ONLY!).  However, due to the severity of the damage and the amount of debris, there is no guarantee as to timeframe for pick-up.  The brush may sit curbside for several months and there is also the chance that snow could come before removal is completed, therefore, removal could occur as late as in the spring.

The Town is encouraging residents to make every attempt to remove this debris on their own accord -- if you have a wooded area on your property where you can put this and let 'nature take its course ' -that is the best option!  Please keep in mind that this was a storm of historic proportions and the devestation that occured is massive!

Burning of brush is by permit - you can call the burning official at 860-738-8958 to make an appointment for a permit.
Regional Refuse Disposal District # 1 does accept brush -- there is a fee (by cubic yard) charged for disposal.  Call 860-379-1972 for additional information.

New Hartford is a small, close-knit community located in the northwest corner of the state of Connecticut. It is bordered by Torrington to the west, Barkhamsted to the north, Canton to the east, and Burlington and Harwinton to the south.

The Farmington River traverses the downtown area, providing scenic beauty to all who frequent the quaint shops and businesses located there. In the spring, fly fishermen can be seen casting their lines in one of Connecticut’s most well known catch-and-release areas. The summer brings kids of all ages to this river to experience the thrill of riding the rapids on a tube or in a kayak, available for rent from local vendors.

Fall brings its own charm to New Hartford. Residents and visitors flock to the antique shops in the area while enjoying the spectacular colors of the foliage-covered rolling hills surrounding the town. Ski enthusiasts are drawn to New Hartford to the ski area with a great range of slopes sure to please all, beginner to advanced. A great variety of events are held throughout the winter; we welcome all to join in or just watch.

New Hartford has it all!
