Yellow lines are back!  You may have noticed that several roads have received a fresh striping.  This is in response to several requests from residents to have the lines 'spruced up.'  These markings aid in keeping motorists in their lane.  Road construction will continue through July, August and September. As always, your comments and suggestions are always welcome.  If you see an area of concern on New Hartford roads, please call the First Selectman at 860-379-3389.

Summer Road Improvements - Paving and chip sealing has begun!  Please note that with the difficult economy and limited funds, this office, in conjunction with the highway department, has done the best job possible to maximize your tax dollars and extend the life of our aging road system.  That said, we continue to monitor all roads on a daily basis.  Many roads still require significant improvement.  This year, 9.90 miles will receive significant restoration (either paving and/or chip-sealing) making a two year total of 21.95 miles of our 72.45 miles of paved roadway being restored.

Please read the following letter that identifies the roads that have received or will  receive improvements this summer.
Please also note that repair work is being done to small portions of South Road and Gibson Lane.

A message from the First Selectman:

Thank you to all those who took the time to exercise their right to vote on Tuesday, May 3, 2011.  Our Annual Budget passed; 268 in favor, 87 opposed.  Northwestern Regional #7 also passed with New Hartford voters voting 198 - 156.  This budget takes effect July 1, 2011- June 30, 2012.  Thank you for your support.  As always, if you have concerns, please call or e-mail me directly.

With the coming of Spring, our town forces will now turn their attention to much needed road and infrastucture repairs and upgrades.  The Town Road Crew will be visible working on such projects as preparing roads for paving and chip-sealing, replacing drainage pipes and catch basins, maintaining our parks, as well as fixing potholes and cutting trees.

WINCHESTER ROAD BRIDGE REPLACEMENT

After several months of preparation, the 30' long bridge located on Winchester Road that crosses Bakersville Brook is going to be replaced.   This structure has been identified by our engineers as being the bridge in Town as being in most need of replacement.  Work will begin on Monday, May 9, 2011.  During construction, traffic will not be able to access Maple Hollow Road from Winchester Road.   THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN COMPLETED - ROAD IS OPEN

Please click here to see correspondence sent to neighborhood residents describing the project.

The First Selectman is the chief executive officer in a statutory town.  A statutory town is one  that has no governing charter but is governed by Connecticut State General Statutes and any ordinances passed by the town. The First Selectman is a full time paid position in New Hartford.  He receives a salary which is noted as a line item in the town budget.  The primary duty of the first selectman is to implement the policies of the board, and to manage the town’s daily activity. The town meeting is the legislative body of the town.Elections for First Selectman and members of the Board are held every two years. The First Selectman maintains an “open door policy” and encourages residents to call or stop by at will.

In addition to the First Selectman, there are two selectmen who complete the Board of Selectmen.  The number of selectmen varies from town to town.  In 1915 the law provided that a town having a population of fewer than 10,000 should elect not more than three selectmen.  The two Selectmen who complete the Board serve as volunteers.  They do not receive any compensation for their services.  They do not maintain an office at Town Hall, but can be reached by calling Town Hall (First Selectman’s Office 379-3389) and leaving a message for them or they can be e-mailed using the information provided below.
